On Sunday, 3 June - a few friends and I decided to ride the east side of the Wasatch mountains. The goal was to reach the high point above Strawberry and Deer Creek reservoirs: We succeeded!
Staging at the back end of Hobble Creek Canyon, we unloaded and started our journey. The trail was recently washed out by flooding, so was wicked rough and full of huge rocks. After 30 minutes of hard riding, our arms were already sore from absorbing the pummeling the trail was giving us.
From a maintenance perspective, I was again trying to determine the intermittent fuel issues occurring on my Kawasaki ATV. Having changed the plugs/wires/coils and performed a full valve adjustment, I was still having an issue after ~30 miles of riding.
Mid-way through the ascent,we determined the source of my issues: The new exhaust system I installed late last year was generating so much heat, it was boiling the fuel in the tank!
After ~4 hours of riding, we made the high point - a telecommunications tower array overlooking Strawberry Res, Deercreek and everything for 360 degrees!
As the day progressed, temperatures quickly climbed from a mild ~71F to a blazing ~92F.
After enjoying the scenery at the high point, we started our descent to Daniels Summit where we enjoyed a great burger/fries and cold drink.
At about 2pm, we started our return journey back, via an alternate route through Left Hand Fork / Diamond Fork, stopping at a man-made pool where we tried a bit of fishing.
After riding for well over an hour through some of the most dusty trails I can recall, we finally made it back to our vehicles; the time was 6:30pm. Outside temperature was now almost 95F in the canyon.
Tired, dirty and sun burned, but still a fine day!
