50+ mile ride (Five Mile Pass to Jacob City and back)

Updated again: At this point, if it looks like this area is passable (based on my checking it out again this weekend), then this ride is scheduled for Saturday, May 16th! If you'd like to participate, email/comment.

Update: Ride

DSC08283.JPG

As an update to this GPSr route, I'm planning a group ride along this route sometime in the next few weeks. I hope to get up to this location by the weekend to scout out the trail and snow situation. Based on my findings, I'll be emailing those that express interest in joining in. PM me or leave a comment if you want to join in.

This is not a coordinated group ride so much as just folks showing up and participating or just following behind.

I would be interested in this little trip also know an other way back.

Great. Other than coming down Jacob and going down US 73 back toward 5Mile, or back tracking, I'd love to know an alternate route.

Well you can take the road down from Jacobs City like going to Stockton when you get on the flats take the pole line road back.

Hmm.. I've taken the power pole line into Ophir, but it dead-ends on a cliff high above Ophir Canyon. Which pole line are you referencing? GPSr coordinates? I've also tried following the dirt along US73, but it's not real passable.

Sir what will be our return route? followed the coordinates you have posted but they dont quite get to Jacob City.

Thanks Bill

I need to get back out to this location on this coming Saturday. This time, I need to see if I can get to the top from the Jacob City side. There's really no decent return route, short of back tracking.

If the North slope is still not passable, I may just do a ride through Black Canyon, Little Moab and the Tintic Mountains instead.
